City Nature Challenge Trivia & Happy Hour

April 26, 2024 3:00 pm -
April 26, 2024 6:00 pm

Learn more about the City Nature Challenge — a friendly competition among metropolitan areas around the world to see who can document the most species — and test your knowledge of regional flora and fauna during this fun happy hour. In last year’s City Nature Challenge, the Houston-Galveston team finished first in the United States, and 5th globally, so we would appreciate your help as we seek to keep the streak alive.

We will start the afternoon with a primer on how to use the iNaturalist app — the tool around which the City Nature Challenge is organized — to observe and identify species. Then the happy hour and trivia begin, followed by a bioblitz — basically, we’ll conduct a species inventory in a short period of time — in the Garden.

Non-member fee of $15 includes after-hours admission to the Garden and adult refreshments. Members can attend at no charge.

Houston Botanic Garden offers free parking for most events, which are often held in climate-controlled environments, rain or shine. If you have specific questions, please email
