Houston Botanic Garden Horticulture Seminar

WHEN
September 16, 2023 8:30 am -
September 16, 2023 5:00 pm

In this workshop, participants will learn how to use a variety of leaves to make botanical prints on fabric through eco printing. Eco printing is a natural dye process that creates incredible prints of leaves on fabric without using artificial dyes or harmful chemicals.

The workshop will cover techniques to achieve clear prints as well as mordanting – the process of preparing fibers to accept color – to create color variations. Resulting prints will be “color fast;” they should not wash out or fade quickly, and the printed fabrics can be used in clothing, household items, quilting, collage, or even be considered works of art themselves. The techniques learned in the workshop could also be used to make prints on paper.

Everything participants will need to benefit from the workshop is included in the registration and supply fees. We also encourage participants to bring their own leaves to experiment with, if they like.

Non-member fee of $80 includes admission to the Garden and registration ($45), as well as a supply fee ($35). Garden members receive a $10 discount off registration.

Houston Botanic Garden offers free parking for most events, which are often held in climate-controlled environments, rain or shine. If you have specific questions, please email education@hbg.org.
