Now celebrated in November, because it is the best time to plant trees in the state, Texas Arbor Day traces its roots to Temple, in February 1889, when W. Goodrich Jones and other citizens of the city called for a tree planting campaign along its streets.
This year, the Garden will celebrate the amazing trees of Texas with a baby tree giveaway in partnership with Trees for Houston, family-friendly tree-themed crafts, walks to view native trees around the Garden, and a presentation on selecting and caring for native trees from Bartlett Tree Experts. Houston SPCA’s Wildlife Center of Texas will also be on-site with its ambassador birds through noon (12 p.m.).
The Texas Arbor Day celebration is included in general admission to the Garden, which is $12/adult, $8/child/student/senior/military. Members can use the free general admission benefit(s) associated with their level of membership to attend at no additional charge.
Houston Botanic Garden offers free parking for daytime events, which are rain or shine.
