The Houston NIA Collective returns to the Houston Botanic Garden — just as spring buds burgeon their brilliant colors — to lead an immersive community dance routine called “Sacred.” The routine focuses on the sensations of health and well-being through movement of the bones and their interrelated connective tissue, muscles, and joints.

Community is about creating spaces of belonging that enable relational depth to grow–just as the relationship of pollinators to plants brings forth a vibrant array of flora. Research has shown that building strong community connections has a positive impact on an individual’s mental, physical, and emotional health, as well as on the health of communities as a whole. With this special partnership, the Houston NIA Collective and the Garden seek to help those who are so inclined to deepen the connection to their bodies and “pollinate” their precious energies together, while honoring the sacred beauty of Mother Earth.

Nia in the Garden will include:

  • 60-minute guided movement experience, using the form and freedom of easy-to-follow dance and simplified martial arts to stimulate healing and conditioning
  • Silent walking meditation to awaken senses and appreciation for nature
  • Refreshing closing elixir and nourishing snack to refresh and rejuvenate the body
  • Take-home gift from the NIA hosts

Non-member fee of $47 includes general admission to the Garden. Members receive a $10 discount.

Houston Botanic Garden offers free parking, and our events are often held in climate-controlled environments, rain or shine. If you have specific questions, please email education@hbg.org.
