Cultivating Health & Relaxation with Yoga & Ayurveda

December 9, 2023 4:00 pm

Join us for an afternoon retreat at the Garden—Cultivating Health and Relaxation through the Wisdoms of Yoga & Ayurveda. The retreat is designed for participants at all levels of experience, who will explore their inner systems through soothing Himalayan Hatha yoga and meditative breathing techniques (Pranayama) with Renata, a Buddhist practitioner and rehabilitator who integrates modern and timeless health and well-being practices learned in southern India. Then merge into the healing power of Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medical system, with an interactive presentation by Sarrah Zadeh, founder of Satt Sol and director of the Institute of Ayurvedic Medicine at the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Houston.

During the yoga session, we will focus on aligning specific joints, engaging proper muscles, and purifying energy in the chakra system through a deep understanding of anatomy and an authentic yogi transmission. These practices also aid in reducing anxiety, nervous energy, and fear, bringing more freedom and happiness to mind as they improve decision-making and overall mental stability.

During the Ayurveda session, you will learn the basics of Ayurveda and healthy tips regarding diet and sleep cycles — beneficial for a variety of physical conditions — that you can apply to your lifestyle. The presenter will guide you through ancient wisdom on how to easily create and nurture inner harmony, bringing more energy into your system and elevating your wellbeing.

After the sessions, participants will get a divine taste of healthy and delicious Ayurvedic light bites and warming tulsi tea prepared by Sarrah, have time to talk one-on-one with the presenters, and take a walk in the beautiful Houston Botanic Garden.

Please bring a meditation cushion, yoga mat, and a blanket, as the event will be held in both outdoor and climate-controlled indoor spaces, weather-permitting.

Non-member fee of $55 includes general admission to the Garden and light bites with tea. Members receive a $10 discount.

Houston Botanic Garden offers free parking for most events, which are often held in climate-controlled environments, rain or shine. If you have specific questions, please email education@hbg.org.
